Merry Christmas

I wanted to take the time to wish you all a Merry Christmas. I am a Christian and I believe in saying, "Merry Christmas."

This time of year it's hard to know what to say to people. Some people become offended by saying, "Merry Christmas." They want us to say, "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings" or some other form of greeting that doesn't reflect our personal beliefs. My question to you is, how do you handle this? I'd be curious to hear your responses on what you believe should be said this time of year.

Here in Olympia we've been having an interesting time at our capital building. Among the traditional Christmas decorations an atheist has placed a sign stating his/her belief that there is no God, no Angels, no Hell, etc. It has created a pretty big uprising among the Christian community. There were even protests held at the capital against the sign.

My belief is that we live in America and that means we have freedom of speech. My husband fights daily for this freedom. While don't agree with the sign I don't feel it is my place to protest it. I am not here to judge what another person believes. God will be the judge, not me.

History repeats itself and there will forever be non-believers in this world. Acts 14: 2 says, "But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers." There will forever be people of different faiths and different beliefs trying to turn our minds against God. It is how we react to these situations that shows the kind of belief that we have. Acts 19:9 says, "But some of them became obstinate, they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them, He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus." Paul set an example in his actions.

Romans 14:22 says, "So that whatever you believe about these things keep to yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves."

What do you believe?

My prayer: Dear Lord, I praise you. Thank you for giving us free will to come to know and love you by our own choice. We are able to know you in such an intimate and personal way. I pray for those who have found you and love you and ask that you continue to bless their lives. I also pray for those who have not come to find you and do not know your love that they may be led to you and saved. I know you are leading them, help them to open their eyes and see the wonderful things you are doing in their lives. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Data Driven Misconceptions

We live in a world that is driven by data and trends.  Looking for value and answers in the numbers and trying to figure out how to better our lives, our business, our goal based on those numbers.  As I've been working more on my running and keeping track on the app on my phone my distances, my speeds, my number of weekly workouts and trying to week over week beat those numbers I realized something this week.  This week I still did my workouts, but I was in a different environment.  I still did the same number of miles, but the course I was doing them on was much more challenging.  My goals had to adjust to the path that I was working on.  I was more satisfied with my accomplishments when I was finished because the course had been so much more challenging.  But I was let down by looking at the tracked numbers in my app because my times were slower and it was "messing up" my week over week numbers.  For someone from the outside to simply look...

Faith

I have faith. What does it mean when a person says, “I have faith?” Part of my goals for this blog is to discuss faith playing a part in dealing with various issues. I feel that we should start by talking about faith itself. At one of my very first Bible study sessions a friend of mine said that she doesn’t like it when people say, “I have faith” because they aren’t expressing where their faith lies. Faith is defined as “…in general the persuasion of the mind that a certain statement is true. Its primary idea is trust. A thing is true, and therefore worthy of trust. It admits of many degrees up to full assurance of faith, in accordance with the evidence on which it rests." (Easton) I recently was reading an article in a magazine that consisted of “inspirational” quotes from famous historical figures. Out of the seven included quotes only one of them mentioned anything about faith. However, that one quote didn’t state what your faith should be in: “Take the first step in faith. You...

Faithful

As I'm sitting here watching it snow, wrapped in a soft, warm, leopard print robe, drinking my coffee, I wanted to spend some time in reflection.  Today's coffee is with sugar free vanilla syrup and sugar free cream.  Some days I drink it black but today, a little added sweetness and cream seemed like a good idea.  I'm supposed to be at the gym getting in today's upper body, abs and cardio workout, but it looks like the snow is winning so God is telling me to take a rest day.  In the last few weeks I've been spending a lot of time in self-reflection fighting the feelings of failure.  I've spent time in prayer, daily Bible reading and any book I can get my hands on.  I started a fourth book yesterday again finding voices of hope and healing when I feel like I'm in the midst of failure.  I've made an appointment to meet with my pastor and am hoping to just get myself back on track and maybe, maybe, start to like myself a little bit. I titled this p...
